Researchers from the UK, reporting in this month's Diabetes Care, investigated whether the incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome was increased among people who went on to develop diabetes years later:
"The researchers found that people who had been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome were 36% more likely to later be diagnosed with diabetes, regardless of other diabetes risk factors."

Certainly, having carpal tunnel syndrome does not ensure a diagnosis of diabetes. But it can be a heads-up to have your blood sugar checked. High blood sugars, even in the pre-diabetes state, can have a damaging impact on nerves.
